Pulp: Sink or Swim (song)

Details

Lyrics

I see it's time
For me to take the plunge
Instead of sitting back
Watching everyone
Decisions now
Affect my future days
But are they right or wrong?
Who on earth can say?

Well, it's my turn
To kiss and cry at night
Am I frightened?
What would you define as fright?

Sink or swim's the phrase that springs to mind
Happiness awaits
It's just for me to find
If I thought too long
I'd never do a thing
So I'll just close my eyes
And throw myself right in

Well, it's my turn
To see what I can see
I may be frightened
But would anyone not be?

Well, it's my turn
For me to see what I can see
I may be frightened
But would anyone not be?

Notes

In a 1994 interview with Record Collector Jarvis described this song as being about "standing on the threshold of life".

This song was recorded for the It LP but it was rejected and left unmixed. It was believed to have been released on the 2012 issue, but the likelihood is that the 2012 version was actually from the Spice Demo.
