Jarvis: Happy New Year Baby (song)

Details

This song was written by Jarvis and Richard Hawley probably around 2000. The music was later used on the song Naked In Pitsmoor that appeared on Hawley's debut eponymously titled solo album in April 2001.

At one point this track was suggested was a possible B-side to Pulp's last single Bad Cover Version. In the end though it was not recorded and remains unreleased. However, it has been played live once at a Richard Hawley solo concert at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2008. Jarvis made a guest appearance providing the vocals.

Lyrics

I fill my days with things to do
So I won't have to think of you
Stoned out of my head once more
My brain flaps like a broken door

It's true
And what's more it's official

My life is screwed up beyond repair
All I'm doing is just going through the motions
Driving someone else's car

And I think I missed my turning
back there

I can't wait for this year to end
So I can try to start again
The kids are going on a summer holiday
But I am here celebrating Christmas Day

It's true
And what's more it's official

'Cause if today was Christmas Day
A brand new year would only be a week away
And I could stop all of this going through the motions
Driving someone else's car

Why kill time when you can cure yourself?
Why go out all night when it's bad for your health?
Rehearsing all the things I'd say if you were here
Well the first thing I would say would be:
Happy New Year

Happy New Year Baby
Can't we start again Baby?
You could start by just trying not to hate me
Oh...

Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby
Can't we start again Baby?
Happy New Year Baby
Starting by just trying not to hate me
Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby
Happy New Year Baby ...
