The Sheffield Star organised this local bands competition. Jarvis recalls that the preliminary heats took place in various locations around the city with a final then held at the Top Rank nightclub. The prize was a day in a recording studio. Each band could play a maximum of three songs.

Another band who played in this heat were Vector 7-7 featuring future Pulp band members Wayne Furniss and David Hinkler.

Neither Pulp nor Vector 7-7 made it through to the next round.
