We have made a choice - no we don't want to die
We want to look the future firmly in the eye
Speaking personally I have to say that I
would like to dance again
Yeah, we know that 99 percent is crap
But we're the other 1 percent
What you gonna do about that?
We want something to happen
We want it to come fast
We want to dance again
Oh, we can dance again
Take a chance again
If you can make it outdoors
You can do it once more
It's alright again
And if you hold me tight
I might just stay the night
And we'll forget where we've been
And all the crap we have seen
It's alright again
Alright again
Alright
Can you believe that it was only yesterday
That there was nothing going on - nothing to play
We don't want trouble - no
We only want to say:
We'd like to dance again
So although it doesn't mean a single thing
Oh well, it might just make us laugh
and it might just make us sing
and it might help us forget that
we don't know where we're going
if we dance again
Dance again
Oh yeah
Oh, we can dance again
Take a chance again
If you can make it outdoors
You can do it once more
It's alright again
And if you hold me tight
I might just stay the night
We'll forget where we've been
And all the crap we have seen
It's alright again
Alright again
Alright
La la la la
Oh, it's okay
Oh, it's not the end of the world
It's just some boys and some girls
making fools of themselves
Everybody's singing!
We can dance again
Take a chance again
If you can make it outdoors
You can do it once more
It's alright again
And if you hold me tight
I might just stay the night
We'll forget where we've been
And all the crap we have seen
It's alright again
Alright again
Alright
Oh, we can dance again
Hold my hand
Yeah it's alright
Your hair is beautiful, yeah
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Oh yeah, we can dance again
Hold my hand
Yeah it's alright
Your hair is beautiful, yeah
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
La la la la la la
The lyrics below are from a live version played at the Theatre Royal, London (18 December 1994). Until the Deluxe Edition of Different Class was released in 2006, this was the only version available to fans
Oh you've been waiting for this moment to arrive
since late September 1985
Now you watch the ice-rings melt before your eyes
You can dance again
So many times I've wondered just what you would do
if it happened, and it suddenly came true?
And you say getting close to you
Yeah, now we can dance again
Oh we can dance again
Take a chance again
We can crawl out of doors
We can do it once more
It's alright again
And if I hold you tight
and I'll stay right through the night
We can forget where we've been
And all the crap we have seen
It's alright again
Can you believe that it was only yesterday
that you were frightened and they wanted you to pay?
Now I've watched you burn your anorak and say:
We can dance again
And after living in the dark for 15 years
Oh, the light's getting brighter
and it makes things disappear
All that loneliness of growing pains and fear
Oh we can dance again, oh dance again, oh!
Oh we can dance again
Take a chance again
We can crawl out of doors
We can do it once more
It's alright again
And if you hold me tight
we might just stay the night
We will forget where we've been
And all the crap we have seen
It's alright again
It's alright
It's okay
It's not the end of the world
It's just some boys and some girls
making fools of themselves
Everybody singing:
We can dance again
Take a chance again
We can crawl out of doors
We can do it once more
It's alright again
And if you hold me tight
I'll stay right through the night
We'll forget where we've been
And all the crap we've seen
It's alright again
It's alright, it's alright!
Oh, we can dance again
Hold my hand, it's alright
Your hair is beautiful, yeah
Oh oh oh
Oh yeah, we can dance again
Hold my hand, it's alright
Your hair looks beautiful, yeah
Oh oh oh oh
Ah la la la la la!
At one time we thought this was going to be our next big hit after "Babies". We played it at our Christmas 1994 show at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and it brought the house down (quite literally: the balconies to the venue suffered pretty severe structural damage). My Mum still asks me when we're going to release it.
The chorus melody of this song bears more than a passing resemblance to the theme from the BBC sci-fi series Blake's 7.
We Can Dance Again was covered by Chevette as part of a split EP on the Invicta Hi-Fi label in 1997. This recording also appeared on an Invicta Hi-Fi compilation CD in 1998:

From the lyric:
It's okay
It's not the end of the world
It's just some boys and some girls
making fools of themselves
cf chorus lyric to The End of the World from Behaviour (1990) by the Pet Shop Boys:
It's just a boy or a girl
It's not the end of the world
