The 542nd concert played by Pulp, who took to the Hogmanay Concert in the Gardens stage around 11pm GMT with Jarvis instructing the crowd to “make this the best fifty minutes of the year”. Something Changed was dedicated to both Steve Mackey and Jarvis's seriously ill mother Christine; who sadly passed away the following day; a video message was recorded for her with the audience. Richard Hawley joined the band for Sunrise, the final song of 2023.
After a short break for the New Year countdown, a full length rendition of Auld Lang Syne and a spectacular fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle heralded the arrival of 2024, Pulp returned with Disco 2000. Background Noise then made its UK debut, before the return of Lipgloss (first appearance since November 2012) and Monday Morning (unheard since December 2012). Richard Hawley returned for Common People, accompanied by bagpipers Calum & Aillis.
