Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Jarvis commented that: "I think it will probably be louder than the last one. The thing was I wrote that [first solo] record over a period of time and enlisted the help of Steve, Ross and Richard and that to record it. And then went out and played it and kind of luckily discovered that I had a band that could rock. [...] And so what I've tried to do with the new stuff, rather than just sit there and wait for inspiration to come at some point, which takes ages, we've kind of written stuff together and it's kind of a bit louder."
He also said: "I'm playing three shows in America in July in which I'm going to try lots of new stuff out. And see if I survive that and then try and get it recorded as soon as possible really. But I probably won't get it out this year, being realistic, but I would just like to get it out as soon as possible."

This was broadcast on BBC Radio 2 at 10:30pm on 1st July.
Details (BBC press release):
Jarvis Cocker takes listeners on an intimate tour of Sheffield in this evocative Musical Map, creating a soundtrack of music to drive his memories, feelings and observations about his home town.
"Sheffield's my city, it's where I grew up, and although I've moved away for now, I'd like to try and show you around. Sorry if we get lost, it changes every time I come here," he says.
Jarvis recalls his childhood, listening just to conversations about love and disappointment. He introduces the music of Sheffield legends including Joe Cocker, Cabaret Voltaire, Human League and Artery, and remembers how the city came to life with music in the post-punk era.

Love is Blind has been covered by The Bon Bon Club: a collaboration featuring two members of The Long Blondes. It appears on a 7" single released on 23rd June by the Sheffield Phonographic Corporation.
More info:
"The Bon Bon Club are Sushi Quatro (bass, vox), Thirsty Moore (drums, vox) and Chapatti Smith (perc, vox), although Sushi and Thirsty are better known under different names for their day job as the rhythm section of Sheffield glam-popsters The Long Blondes and Chapatti also plays in Slow Down Tallahassee.
On this single The Bon Bon Club hit us with a Hulk-fist sized triple whammy (plus!) of cover versions. Rather than slow the songs down on acoustic guitar to 'show the great songwriting' like every Jo Wiley Live Lounge indie plodder, the Bon Bons strip 'em down and rip 'em up to the real essentials - the bass and drums. This is how you do it.
The covers are The Cure's "Lullaby", Pulp's "Love is Blind" and Death from Above 1979's "Romantic Rights".
You can listen to the song on its last.fm page.
