Jarvis at Galerie Chappe, Paris, May 5 to 10

Jarvis and his band will be resident at Galerie Chappe in Paris between May 5 and 10, 2009. They will be there each day between about 12 noon and 6/7pm. They plan to host a series of activities and events that will attempt to answer the question "What is music?".

Activities that will take place include:

  • They will conduct public rehearsal sessions
  • Members of the public will be able to bring an instrument and play along with the band
  • Guest musicians will be invited to come along and play
  • They will improvise based on titles and themes suggested by visitors
  • There will be Yoga, pilates and relaxation classes with live musical accompaniment
  • One afternoon the band will supervise a number of music-based activities for children

The gallery will also display a selection of photographs by Rankin shot for Jarvis' new album Further Complications.

All of these events will be broadcast on Jarvis' website: www.jarviscocker.net

Album tracklisting

There is some uncertainty about the tracklisting for Further Complications.

Most tracklistings are as follows:

  1. Further Complications
  2. Angela
  3. Pilchard
  4. Leftovers
  5. I Never Said I Was Deep
  6. Homewrecker!
  7. Hold Still
  8. Fuckingsong
  9. Caucasian Blues
  10. Slush
  11. You're In My Eyes (Discosong)

However, several online record stores strangely list the UK CD version as not including Further Complications nor I Never Said I Was Deep. This may well be a mistake, but there is also a chance it is correct. (EDIT: This fortunately turned out to just be a mistake.)

18 April 2009

Angela

As well as being offered as a free download on jarviscocker.net, Angela will also be released as a limited 7" single on 15th June. The B-side will be I Found Myself Looking For God.

In addition, Angela also appears on a limited edition compilation cassette released on 18th April as part of Record Store Day. An event in support of the dwindling number of independent record shops around the country. The cassette is called C09, clearly a nod towards the legendary C86 cassette. It is limited to just 300 copies, which will be sold in independent record shops for the minimal price of 99p.

Jarvis - recent appearances

Jarvis has recently performed at two events in London.

Twisted Christmas, Barbican Centre, London (Thursday, 11 December)

Information from the Barbican website:

A deliciously dark evening of twisted Christmas songs from an exciting line-up of singers, musicians and stage actors performing their own versions of Christmas songs past, present and future.

Featuring Jarvis Cocker, Patrick Wolf, Sandy Dillon, Daniel Knox, Bonfire Madigan, Mary Margaret O’Hara, The Inn-Ringers, The Smoke Fairies, Foy Vance, Kathryn Williams and Neill MacColl, The New London Children’s Choir, Lou Rhodes, Frank Sidebottom & more.

He performed an interpretation of the traditional Christmas carol God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, and also a song he had written himself called Slush

Shlomo - A Concert Against Knife Crime, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (Saturday, 13 December)

Information from the Southbank Centre website:

Beatbox artist Shlomo hosts a very special show to promote music as an aid to fight knife crime in the UK. A diverse cast of guest artists collaborate with Shlomo for one night of spontaneous music.

The idea for the concert is based on Shlomo's two-hour show at Glastonbury festival this year, where he brought out a whole host of guest artists to collaborate and jam in front of 15,000 people.

In this performance, each artist performs one or two songs, either solo or duetting with Shlomo or other guests, with Shlomo's beatbox choir, The Vocal Orchestra, always on-hand as the backing band.

He performed Fat Children with his usual band replaced by beatbox artists vocally mimicking the sounds of the instruments.

Jarvis reportedly met beatboxer Shlomo while on a recent trip to the Arctic to raise awareness of climate change.
